Title: What are you playing?
Post by: Locust on May 23, 2012, 05:02:06 PM
I thought I'd start a topic about what we all used to do: gaming. I'm sure we all still indulge every now and then in a video game. I know I do  ;)

I'll start this out by admitting that I'm a recovered WoWaholic. I played since 2004 and it was pretty much the only game I played until I finally managed to truly kick it in 2009. 5 fuckin' years... Anyways, I came back last year some time for about 2 months. It was good to see some of the ppl I had raided with back then, but I just wasn't feelin' the game. Plus, I have a child now, so I simply don't have the time for that right now.

My current poison is Diablo III, I've been playing that pretty much nonstop since release, and with the easy-going multiplayer and semi-MMO nature, it's kind of the best of both words: a multiplayer game that you can leave at any time without leaving the other players in a bad spot.

Currently I play on EU servers (cuz that's where I live), but I may open up a char or two on US servers, just for shits n giggles.

Other than that, I'm looking forward to MechWarrior Online (//http://mwomercs.com), Grand Theft Auto V (//http://www.rockstargames.com/V/), Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm (//http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/game/heart-of-the-swarm-preview/), Borderlands 2 (//http://www.borderlands2.com), Bioshock Infinite (//http://www.bioshockinfinite.com), anything Portal related and, of course, Doom 4.

I stick somewhat old school because my computer is old.  (P4, 1.5g, winxp).  I just got rid of my CRT screen last week.  lol.

Right now I've been playing pretty much exclusively desert combat which is a mod for battlefield 1942 with modern weapons.  Not the greatest game engine but still fun.  When I don't play that I play other old single player shit to pass the time.  I was heavy into counterstrike for a long time.  Messed with COD4 a bit but it was pretty much all my computer can handle with the settings turned to the lowest possible.  Other than that I played a shitload of rock band on ps3 over the last 5 years.

I had a good run with Call of Duty when it first came out.  Seagal, his brother Sparky, my buddy Jwoz (he was on CQ but I cant remember his handle) and myself were roomates for a couple years and we would get the 4 player lan games going on a daily basis.  It was especially exciting when United Offensive came out.  Eventually we all grew up and got our own places and whatnot.  I had about a 6-8 month stint with WoW.  Ganged up with Locust and his family on that.  It was definitely fun and addicting.  After that I played Call of Duty Modern Warfare when it came out for about 8 months.  I played online multiplayer until I got all my gold weapons.  About 8 months ago Jwoz, Sparky and I all bought copies of United Offensive and we all meet on a cool server and play base assault.  I haven't done that in a couple months tho..

I barely have time to even post on forums anymore, which is a good thing because business is good and busy.  When I'm not attending to that, I enjoy my time with wife and daughter.

the end

When I'm at home I'm playing either league of legends or team fortress 2.  I played the new star wars mmorpg for a little bit but didn't really pique my interest for too long.  Outside of that not much gaming.  I've played a lot of the old stuff, but the new fps games just don't really keep my interest.  Too much dolphin diving and other stupid crap that makes no sense.  Not to mention when I tried flying the helicopters in the game I would usually end up crashing them.  This pissed me off to no end.

Yeah a lot of those SEAL diving water shenanigans make no sense :) ironic that you keep crashing video game helicopters... How do you explain that to people? :) however, having also flown a real life aircraft, I know how much different the Real Deal is compared to a simulation.

I played SWTOR too. My account is still active, in fact. But for me, it's a lot like Diablo: an online-connected single player game. I have no desire to group up with strangers and be locked into a game for hours on end.
