Chit-Chat / Hello again!

Hey everyone,

Just doing a quick ping to see if there is life here (or if any of you have email notifications turned on :) Would still be up for some kind of death match event at some point. We're all older and busier now so we'll need to set a date in advance I think. Would be down for some Doom related death match, but food for thought: Quake 3 Arena is also an option. While it came out after the Cyberquest Era, it's arguably one of the purest forms of death match.

Hey guys, I just remembered this forum randomly and was very happy to see that I still have my username / password stored in my password manager. Glad to see there's some life here still :)

I ended up going into computer graphics and had a career in that for 15 years. I've very recently switched to the real estate business where I've made my own investment company and working to scale that. We live in New Hampshire now.

Would love to get a classic doom game going sometime. Last year I actually spent some time going down memory lane and played the first episode of the original game, good times.

I forgot if this topic has already been discussed, but does the CQ BBS data live anywhere? Like an old hard drive in a basement? Or is it absolutely gone for good?

Ha, yup! Complete with animated Netscape logo too. Nearly forgot about AltaVista though. I still remember when I first heard about Google... back in 2000 I think(???). I went to their site and was really unimpressed with their clown-like logo. "Well, these guys are going nowhere fast..." Gulp.

Actually, to be honest, I still hate the logo. :D

Chit-Chat / WAD explorer?
January 21, 2013, 06:41:47 PM
Hey guys,

To your knowledge, has anyone ever tried putting together some sort of web-based WAD viewer? Internet browsers these days are getting really sophisticated with what they can do, Chrome has some sort of openGL thing that looks about x4 better than Unreal did when it came out in 1997(?). It seems like porting some version of the doom engine (which I believe is open source now?) to a web browser would at least be possible. Maybe there aren't enough old Doom fans left over to see it realized though.

Anyways, I thought it would be really cool to be able to explore some of our old favorites online. Danzig 18 anyone?

From what I understand, our servers are constantly being upgraded and maintained by top level engineers. Nevertheless, due to the extreme load of traffic to this forum they just can't stay on top of it all, which results in 99.999% of posts being lost. :( Hopefully the addition of our  17th mega-data center will begin to put a dent in to the problem. Google and other top sites have been experiencing extreme slow downs due to the relative internet load here, and even military and other government facilities have been put on yellow alert because of their communication systems being so severely curtailed. Global government intervention / assistance seems likely to happen soon to aliviate this issue. As it is the UN has been ramping up pressure on all participating nations to act on this issue sooner than later.

;)

Awesome, animal! I seem to remember there being many iterations of the front page- including a few in addition to these. But I can't consciously remember them.

Sweeeeet. Thanks for setting this up man.  Say, is there a way to subscribe to all new posts & replies? So that I could get notified in my inbox when people start new threads or reply to threads I've posted in?
